Skin Biopsy

Skin biopsies are typically taken from the ankle region, leg and thigh although the location can be varied based on the patient’s symptoms and condition. The area is numbed with a local anesthetic and a small piece of skin is removed with a sharp pen-shaped device. This procedure is used to identify small fiber neuropathy and sometimes to assist in diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.
