An EMG/nerve conduction study is a specialized electrical test of your muscles and nerves. It consists of two parts. First, the NCS is performed using small electrical impulses to stimulate the nerve and record the response from the nerve or muscle. Then, the EMG is performed which consists of a small acupuncture-like needle inserted into your muscles to record electrical activity. There are generally no after-effects of the testing and no restrictions on your activity after the testing.
