Group Nutrition Visits

What are Group Visits?

Group visits are a way for patients and providers to connect in ways beyond the typical office visit. They are a shared healthcare appointment where a registered dietitian along with another healthcare provider leads a group of patients through a session focused on nutrition and wellness. During these visits, participants typically receive information on topics like healthy eating, managing chronic conditions (such as diabetes or heart disease), weight management, or improving overall health through diet.

The key benefits of a group setting include:

  • Cost-effectiveness: Group sessions are often more affordable than individual consultations.
  • Educational content: Patients learn about nutrition in a group format, which may include interactive discussions, practical tips, and meal planning guidance.
  • Peer support: Patients can share experiences and support each other, which can increase motivation.

Typically a group will consist of 5-10 individuals. The visits offer an educational experience, followed by open discussion (Q&A), with your health care providers aimed at making positive lifestyle changes.

Is this covered by insurance?

Group visits are billed to your health insurance as a primary care visit. You should expect to be responsible for any associated co-pay, co-insurance or deductibles.

How do you ensure privacy?

Respecting privacy and confidentiality is extremely important to us. Group discussions are confidential and all participants will be asked to sign a confidentiality consent agreement prior to participation. Telemedicine sessions are conducted via a secure and HIPPA-compliant platform and sessions are closed to only registered participants. Group visits are never recorded for public, private or internal use.

Do I Need to Register for all Appointments in a Series?

You do not need to register for all sessions in a series, but it is highly encouraged at material presented builds upon content discussed in prior sessions.
