Regular screening can detect pre-cancerous cells and cervical cancer early, when treatment is most effective. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that women start getting Pap tests every three years starting at age 21 through age 65. When diagnosed early and treated effectively, cervical cancer is one of the most successfully treatable cancers.

One European study looked at 11 years (2006 through 2017) and found 90% reduction in cervical cancer incidence compared with the incidence in women who had not been vaccinated.
