It’s National Nutrition Month: “Food Connects Us”

By: Agata Williams, RDN

National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition focused campaign sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). Every March the campaign "focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits."

This year's theme is "Food Connects Us" and it highlights importance of food as something that connects us all. If you worked with me, it is possible that you heard me say that "food is so much more than just nutrition". Food is about connection, about culture and frankly - about joy. So often food is part of the celebration - think weddings, holidays, a new job or retirement parties.

Beyond that, this March AND invites us to "learn about [food] preparation, who made it and where the ingredients were sourced. Health, memories, traditions, seasons and access can all impact our relationship with food. While these factors influence the foods we eat, the foods we eat also affect our health."

If you are interested to learn more about these topics, contact our office to schedule an appointment. Let’s make March the beginning of your journey towards health.
