Healthy Inspiration - February 7, 2025

Dear Patients and Friends,

Welcome to February!

This month, we are focusing on prevention in observance of two major causes of illness: American Heart Month and National Cancer Prevention Month.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death across most racial and ethnic groups, as well as for both men and women, accounting for 1 in 5 deaths in the U.S. The most common type of heart disease, coronary heart disease (CHD), is largely preventable through:

  • Healthy lifestyle choices including diet and exercise.
  • Keeping a healthy weight.
  • Regular health check-ups to monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels.

Join us today for Wear Red Day
as we raise awareness about heart disease and women's heart health.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the U.S., with breast, lung, prostate, and colorectal cancers making up nearly 50% of all new cancer cases. While cancer cannot always be prevented, its risk can be significantly reduced through healthy habits such as:

  • Eating a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans.
  • Avoid processed foods with artificial additives.
  • SPF daily for skin protection.
  • Get vaccinated against Hepatitis B and Human Papilloma Virus.
  • Reduce exposure to toxins in the kitchen and improve indoor air quality.
  • Regular cancer screenings.

Early detection plays a crucial role in both heart disease and cancer prevention. It’s essential to visit your primary care provider at least once a year to stay up to date with recommended screenings. Please contact us to make your next appointment.
