Biography

Dr. Banarer was raised in Peru and came to the United States as an internal medicine resident in 1996. His residency was completed at UT Southwestern Parkland Hospital and he then moved to St Louis for his endocrinology training with one of the internationally recognized experts in diabetes and endocrine care. He was an attending physician at the University of Louisville and VA Hospital for 3 years prior to relocating to Dallas to join the DDEC. In August 2016 Dr. Banarer became owner and director of the DDEC.

Dr Banarer is one of Dallas's leading endocrinologists; patients come from as far away as South America and China to seek his care. He has received multiple awards recognizing his excellent endocrine care, including Blue Cross Blue Shield Bridges to Excellence and United Health Care Premium Care Physician. He has been regularly voted "Best of Dallas Endocrinologists" in the D Magazine (most recently in 2020 for the 5th year!) and has been awarded the Top Endocrinologist TX Top Docs designation.

Dr. Banarer stays on the cutting edge of endocrine care and has published multiple articles in the area of diabetes care, including in the Journal of the American Medical Association, New England Journal of Medicine, and Diabetes Care. For over 10 years he has served as a reviewer for scientific studies submitted for publication in the medical journal Diabetes Care.

When not in the office attending to your care, you can find Dr. Banarer busy with his wife and four beautiful children. His hobbies include community service, playing chess, and traveling.
