Annual/Well Woman Exams

For many patients, this is the entry point to our office. Covered by most insurance plans, the visit consists of a discussion of current gynecologic concerns, followed by a breast exam, Pap smear, and pelvic exam. These components can vary depending on age, condition, and personal preference. While we generally do not perform Pap smears before age 21, physical exams and laboratory testing can be performed as needed. Both Shannan Leonard, APRN and Dr. deFreese consult with patients under the age of 21 for needs such as menstrual cycle control.

For first time patients, to ease your entry to our office, we begin your visit by meeting Shannan Leonard, APRN or Dr. deFreese in a consultation room (with all your clothes on!) for a general discussion of your concerns. This is followed by the physical exam, which would include the Pap smear and collection of any specimens indicated. At the end of the visit, we will provide you with any lab orders, imaging requests, or other testing that we have discussed.
