Minor surgery, Kingwood, Texas
For certain types of minor surgery, such as skin biopsy, lesion removal, toenail removal, cyst removal, Foreign body removal, and wart removal with cryotherapy, visiting your local doctor is preferable to spending time in the hospital. These procedures are relatively easy and can be done in the office with little or no downtime, saving yourself the hassle and expense of checking into a larger facility. Dr. Victor Lugo-Miro offers these minor surgical procedures for the comfort and convenience of his patients.
If you notice a suspicious growth on your skin, a skin biopsy is recommended. This is a short procedure in which your doctor cuts off a small portion of your skin to have it tested for skin cancer, infection, and other issues.
Depending on the size and location of the skin growth, there are several types of skin biopsy:
Local anesthesia is provided to make the procedure more comfortable. Skin biopsies only take a few minutes and require no aftercare other than a bandage over the biopsy site.
A lesion is simply a patch of skin that differs from the surrounding areas. Most types of lesions are very common and benign, including freckles, moles, skin tags, benign lentigines (aka liver spots), and seborrheic keratoses.
If you wish to have one of these removed, it's often as simple as shaving them off with a scalpel. The procedure is usually so quick and easy that anesthesia is not needed, and a Band-Aid over the treatment area is all you need to recover.
Ingrown toenails and fungal toenails are unpleasant, but relatively easy to remove. Local anesthesia is used to numb the toe, then your doctor removes the nail using scalpels, scissors, and other surgical tools. Ointment and a bandage is then applied to stop bleeding and ensure that the nail heals properly. You'll want to treat the toe carefully over the next few days and weeks, wearing open-toed shoes and sandals to avoid compressing the surgical site.
