We diagnose if allergies are present are not. We can use several methods to do this. Allergy skin testing is where we scratch the skin or inject the skin with an allergen to produce an immune response. If needed, we can also perform RAST testing to diagnose allergies via the blood stream.
There are 2 basic methods for this. Scratch testing the skin and intradermal injections into the skin. These methods can be used to diagnose seasonal allergies bee and wasp allergies and food allergies.
Over time, your doctor increases the dose of allergens in each of your allergy shots. This helps get your body used to the allergens (desensitization). Your immune system builds up a tolerance to the allergens, causing your allergy symptoms to diminish over time.
Asthma is frequently associated with allergies. Allergy is a chronic respiratory disease often with sudden episodes of breathing difficulty and coughing. Helping reduce allergy symptoms often also helps reduce asthma symptoms.
For patients that have unexplained recurring infections, we can perform labs to help identify if the immune system is working properly or not. We can treat the patient with antibodies if needed.
Sinus problems are often a manifestation of allergies. Identifying if they have allergies or not can help determine what treatment options are best for the patient. We can determine if the patient has allergies, immune problems, or anatomical problems and correct what is needed.
Urticaria (hives) is a very itchy rash that can negatively affect a person's life. We can help identify the cause when possible and treat the patient accordingly. Biologic therapy is used in some chronic cases.
