What is an ENT Specialist?
An ear, nose, and throat specialist (ENT) is a physician trained in the medical and surgical treatment of the ears, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. They have special expertise in managing diseases of the ears, nose and nasal passages, sinuses, larynx (voice box), oral cavity and upper pharynx (mouth and throat), as well as structures of the neck and face. ENT is the oldest medical specialty in the United States.
The Head and Neck
In the head and neck area, an ENT specialist is trained to treat infectious diseases, tumors (both benign and malignant/cancerous), facial trauma, and deformities of the face. They perform both cosmetic plastic and reconstructive surgery.
What is Audiology?
Hearing is one of our most vital senses. Audiology is a branch of science dealing with hearing. Specifically the therapy of individuals having impaired hearing.
How can we help?
We can evaluate your hearing, determine whether you have a hearing loss, and make recommendations for hearing health care. This may include a referral to a physician or recommendations for hearing aids or other amplifying devices or methods to modify the listening environment.
Different types of hearing loss:
Conductive: middle ear
Sensorineural: inner ear
Mixed: both conductive and sensorineural hearing losses are present at the same time.
