Biography
Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Cintron went to Wake Forest University in North Carolina where he obtained a BS in Biology in 1986. He stayed at Wake Forest for medical school and obtained an MD degree in 1990. After marrying his life partner, Christine, he came to the Washington DC area to do his training to become a Neurologist.
His residency training included an internal medicine internship at the Washington Hospital Center, an adult Neurology residency program at Georgetown University Medical Center and a fellowship in Neuromuscular Diseases and Electrodiagnostic Medicine at George Washington University Medical Center.
In 1995-96, Dr. Cintron became board certified in both Adult Neurology by the American Academy of Neurology and Neuromuscular/EMG by the American Academy of Neuromuscular Disorders and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
After spending 3 years in private practice with VNC Neuroscience, Dr. Cintron started Neuroscience Consultants PLC with his partners, Drs. Jon Peters and Terry Watkins, where he practiced Neurology for over 25 years. Now, he is excited to begin a new chapter with his new practice, Ruben Cintron M.D., Neurology, PLLC, in association with Privia to upgrade and modernize services.
He considers himself a general neurologist with special interest in neuromuscular disorders/EMG, migraines, movement disorders and memory disorders. He also has special interest in Multiple Sclerosis, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and Epilepsy.
Dr. Cintron has obtained a number of awards for his experience in Neurology for more than a quarter of a century and has been listed in the Washington Magazine’s “Best Doctors” list in every edition for the last 20 plus years. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
His approach to Neurology is “doing the best I can to improve the quality of life of the patient with the understanding that every patient is an individual and that neurological symptoms are often complex and require a good working relationship with the patient”. He is active in teaching and is currently an assistant instructor for Virginia Commonwealth University Family Medicine Residency Program.
When he is not at the office, Dr. Cintron (proud father of 2 accomplished sons) spends his time with Christine. As a couple, they stay close to their thriving sons and enjoy what the Washington DC area offers in music, arts, and sports.
