Changing Hot Flashes to Not Flashes

Changing Hot Flashes to Not Flashes

Until recently, women who are unable to take hormones to combat the unruly menopause symptom – hot flashes – sometimes have to rely on less effective treatments.  UNTIL NOW!  There is now a new very effective non-hormonal medicine (Veozah) available thanks to recent approvals by The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  Gone are night sweats too.

“It’s a game changer, being able to offer these therapies to my patients,” says Dr. Parveen S. Vahora, “it has saddened me to see longtime patients miserably suffer these symptoms when they undergo the change.  Now they no longer have to, and that’s been reassuring.”

Hot flashes affect about 75% of menopausal and perimenopausal women in America.  This can greatly impact her quality of life and productivity.  Certain minority groups suffer more and from more severe hot flashes, longer.

Until recently, the only other non-hormonal treatment has been antidepressants.

This long awaited alternative has been anticipated by the medical community for a long time, obviously filling a much needed, unmet need.

When looking at the study research of Veozah, it was reassuring to learn that the trial included a large cross-section of women from a variety of ethnicities aged 40-65.  This greatly helps make this treatment a viable option for most women.

The bottom line is that Veozah is an exciting new option for women who are not able to (or interested in) taking estrogen-based MHT.  If you are one of the 80% of women experiencing hot flashes, it’s time to call the office and turn them into NOT-flashes!
