Biography

Dr. Southerland was born and raised in Trinidad, West Indies until the age of 16 years. She then  moved to Canada where she completed her undergraduate at the University of Guelph , Ontario, Canada. Subsequently she completed medical school and became the Student Union President at Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, where she graduated with Honors. She did a rotating internship in Ireland before moving to the USA for her internship and residency in Pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Southerland then took up a position at University of Florida as a Clinical Assistant Professor in pediatrics at Haile Plantation, Gainesville, Fl.  She has worked locally in Sarasota since 2003.

 Dr. Southerland is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and in addition is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is also Clinical Assistant Professor at Florida State University College of Medicine. Dr. Southerland is married with 2 children. Her husband is a gastroenterologist here in Sarasota.
