Philosophy

As a nurse practitioner, my philosophy of care centers on both holistic and individualized approach to patient well-being. I strongly believe in treating the whole person, not just their physical ailments. I strive to address, the emotional, mental, physical and social aspects of a patient's well being to promote overall health and quality of life. I utilize active listening, kindness, compassion, empathy and respect in every interaction. I am committed to high-quality care by ensuring it is grounded in the most current and effective medical knowledge through continuous learning and application of evidence based guidelines. I believe in empowering patients through education, helping them make informed decisions that align with their own personal values and preferences. I advocate for my patient's needs within the healthcare system, ensuring they receive the necessary support and resources.

Donna lives in Martinsville and has three children, Kelsi, Coleman and Jaxon. In her free time, you can find her cheering on her youngest son on the soccer field, spending time with close friends and family, hiking, playing fetch with her dog Charlee or spending time by the ocean.

Biography

Donna has had a love of nursing and healthcare as long as she can remember. She received her Associates of Applied Sciences as an RN from Patrick & Henry Community College in 2004 and immediately started work at SOVAH of Martinsville. During her 7 years there as a med-surg nurse and a Case Manager, she knew she wanted to be able to provide more in depth care for patients and pursued her dream of becoming a Nurse Practitioner. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing through Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008 and her Master's of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Duke University in 2012. Before joining Mahoney Family Medicine, she spent 10 years in the family practice setting at Carilion Family Medicine in Martinsville as well as a year in the pediatric setting at Children First Pediatrics in Martinsville.
