About Us
Heritage Internal Medicine Associates, LLC (HIMA) opened it's doors as an independent practice on March 1, 2009, but our primary MD partners had multiple years of experience together prior to that. Today, we are one of the last independent practices in the area. What this means for the patient is that the provider decides on his or her own how much time to allocate to a patient, not some corporate bureaucracy.
At HIMA we strive (as our logo says in Greek) to engender superior health through providing superior care. All of the HIMA doctors are board certified in Internal Medicine and practice allopathic medicine. We treat adults – eighteen years of age and older – medically, i.e., not surgically, though we often consult with surgeons before planned procedures and as needed to provide the care our patients need.
While our practitioners address many acute problems our patients might experience, such as respiratory illnesses and the onset of new symptoms, the majority of our patient visits address chronic problems such as hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and hypothyroidism. We collaborate with many specialists as needed, such as cardiologists, endocrinologists, nephrologists, pulomonologists, rheumatologists, gastroenterologists, psychologists, oncologists, orthopedists, and chronic pain specialists.
While we are not a Family Practice, and therefore have not cared for our patients from birth, HIMA can boast that we have cared for many of our patients for decades. And we plan to continue to do so for decades to come. As our practice has grown, we now have two skilled nurse practicioners who have joined us who see their own patients as well as help to provide urgent care for all of Heritage Internal Medicine patients. Elizabeth Hassan, APRN join our team in 2019 and Ling Li, APRN joined in 2023.
