Personal Interests
As a child, I spent hours outside with my siblings, either exploring the beautiful Oregon Coast landscapes or participating in other sports/activities. Those interests have continued into my adulthood, though I spend less time climbing trees and catching tadpoles. I enjoy hiking, working in my garden, and anything in the water. I love to listen to audiobooks during my commute and welcome suggestions of books to add to my "to read" list. Most weeks you'll find me playing pickup basketball and pickleball, longboarding the PTC cart paths, and watching football in the fall and basketball during the winter. I make a mean philly cheesesteak sandwich and some would say my smash burgers and breakfast burritos are the best on the block. My Faith is something I hold dear, and I enjoy spreading God's love with those I meet. I work in our congregation's youth organization and love the passion of our young people.
Now with 4 kids, I love to introduce them to my passions. My heart is happiest in the garden with them, riding bikes along paths, splashing in Line Creek, and exploring new things with them. My wife Lizzy and I try to sneak away on occasion, when we love to try new restaurants (also always looking for recommendations), play pickleball with friends, or enjoy a concert/play. We've found joy driving through PTC in the golf cart on a warm summer night with our kiddos in the back, often with Chick-fil-a ice cream dripping down their chins.
Biography
Dr. Jacob Mitchell grew up in a small town on the Oregon Coast called Florence. Florence is somewhat infamous for being the town that blew up a whale in 1970. The 4-stop-light town was an idealistic place to grow up, and allowed him ample opportunities to explore and learn. Jake was involved in sports all growing up, and was the starting quarterback for the Siuslaw High School Vikings for 3 seasons, leading them to a state championship in 2006. He still holds the school career passing yards record. He also played basketball and ran track. Jake finished high school with a 4.0 GPA and was valedictorian of his class.
After high school, he attended Brigham Young University on a full ride academic scholarship, where he majored in Physiology and Developmental Biology. He took a 2 year hiatus during his undergraduate education to serve a church mission, when he went to live in Lima, Peru. During his 2 years in Peru, he developed a deep love for Peruvian people, culture, cuisine, and became fluent in Spanish. He has continued to work with Spanish speaking populations since leaving Peru, even becoming the co-president of the Latino Medical Student Association while he was in medical school.
In 2009, while at BYU, he met his future wife Lizzy in the university cafeteria, where she was making a waffle. They began dating in 2010 and were married in December of 2012. Lizzy earned a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise and Wellness, and started working at local health clubs. Lizzy continues to teach group fitness classes in Peachtree City. Jake and Lizzy have 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy.
After graduating from BYU, Jake Mitchell became Dr. Mitchell after attending the University of Utah School of Medicine. While in medical school, he developed a love of outpatient medicine for all ages, which prompted him to pursue a career in Family Medicine. He graduated from Medical School in 2019, and then completed a 3 year residency program with the Utah Valley Family Medicine Residency program. He fondly remembers his time in medical school and residency, with the wealth of information learned and the close friendships that he made.
The Mitchell's made the move to Peachtree City in 2022, when they started working at Family Medicine Specialists. They have loved the community, the friends they've made, the school systems, and the rambunctious summer thunderstorms. They feel blessed to call Georgia "home."
