Biography

In 1976, Dr. Raymond Coleman joined his father, the late Dr. Allan Coleman, who established the practice in 1949 (we have three generation of families in the practice).  Dr. Coleman received undergraduate and medical degrees from Tufts University in Boston and trained at the University of Pennsylvania and Tufts-New England Medical Centers.  He has been a board member of the Centers for the Handicapped, Green Acres School, and Capital Camps.  He is a past president of the Montgomery County and Prince George's County Pediatric Society, and has been an active member of a School Community Action Team; the community based organization for preventing high-risk adolescent behavior; he has led parent education programs in hospital-based substance abuse programs as well.  He has also been proactive in the effort to address underage smoking and has received a leadership award from the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics for spearheading anti-tobacco initiatives.  Dr. Coleman was named "Pediatrician of the Year" in 2006 by the Montgomery and Prince George's County Pediatric Societies.  In 2007, he was named "Best Pediatrician in Bethesda" by Bethesda Magazine.  In 2008, he received the Sulam Community Service Award.  He has also been named "Best Physician" by the Washingtonian Magazine, Checkbook Magazine, and U.S. News & World Report.  He has special interests in high-risk adolescent behavior and chronic diseases.  Dr. Coleman has a wife and two children.
