Biography
Dr. Atwood obtained his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Duke University. He received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1987. He completed residency in Family Medicine from Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine and was certified by the American Academy of Family Practice in 1990.
Dr. Atwood opened Atwood Family Medical Center in 1990. His special interests include adolescent and men’s health. However, he enjoys working with patients of all ages. Dr. Atwood started as an associate professor in the department of Community and Family Medicine at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2004 and teaches to this day. He is also an adjunct professor at the College of Health Sciences at Old Dominion University.
Dr. Atwood presented at the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Conference, “A New Triangle: Family Therapy and Family Medicine Meet Multiple Personality Disorder.” His published work has appeared in Medical Economics magazine, “The Doctor Who Saved My Life – and Shaped My Career,” in 1998.
