Biography
In addition to clinical practice, Van has been an advocate for expanding community services, funding peer support organizations, and changing regional court practices to better protect individuals in mental health crises. He aligns his practice with the Recovery Model of mental healthcare, as described by advocate Pat Deegan: “We are refusing to reduce human beings to illnesses. The goal of recovery is not to become normal. The goal is to embrace the human vocation of becoming more deeply, more fully human.”
