Biography

Dr. Katra received undergraduate degrees in history and government from Georgetown University, a Master’s Degree in history from the University of Virginia where he studied the intersection of politics and science in America, and a medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Katra completed his Family Medicine training at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Residency in Bristol, PA. He subsequently completed a fellowship in addiction psychiatry at the University of Virginia. He is also a certified hypnotherapist who specializes in trauma, anxiety, chronic pain, phobias, and addictive behaviors. Dr. Katra has certificates in psychopharmacology from the Neuroscience Education Institute as well as in nutritional psychiatry and personalized integrative medicine from the Integrated Psychiatry Institute. He is also an expert in cannabis medicine and was educated at the Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis & Hemp at Thomas Jefferson University, and currently serves as the cannabis medicine advisor to the University of Virginia's Board of Pain Management and Opioid Stewardship. He regularly gives lectures and has published works on cannabis medicine. Finally, Dr. Katra completed a fellowship in Psychedelic Medicine at the Integrated Psychiatry Institute to treat psychiatric disorders and addiction. He hopes to offer this cutting edge service as soon as it is FDA approved.

1.Cannabis Medicine 

Cannabis is a relatively safe and effective option to treat chronic pain, neuropathy, anxiety, PTSD, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, neuromuscular disorders, crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, cancer, lack of appetite, nausea, epilepsy, migraines, autism, opioid dependence, glaucoma, and AIDS. Medical cannabis is available in different formulations including flower, vape, tinctures, gummies, chocolates, creams, oils, tablets and capsules. Dr. Katra completes Virginia medical cannabis certifications and helps to demystify the process by educating patients on appropriate products. 

2.Psychiatry 

Dr. Katra sees patients for depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, panic attacks, insomnia, ADHD, bipolar disorder, autism, dementia, cognitive impairment, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, and other mental health conditions. He offers genetic testing to see what psychiatric medications are more likely to be effective and less likely to cause side effects in individual patients.

 Personalized Integrative Psychiatry and Nutritional Psychiatry. 

Dr. Katra offers consultations for nutritional psychiatry, which involves utilizing one's diet and lifestyle to help treat psychiatric conditions. He also offers microbiome testing (gut health), micronutrient testing, genetic biomarker testing, advanced cardiovascular testing, metabolic testing, glucose monitoring, and hormonal testing to help personalize treatment for every patient. 

Spravato Clinic 

Dr. Katra offers treatment with Spravato, the nasal form of ketamine, to treat depression, anxiety, and PTSD. The treatment occurs in the office twice a week for 4 weeks and then once a week as needed. If you are interested, please inquire with your insurance company to see if Spravato is covered. 

3.Personalized Integrative Medicine 

Dr. Katra offers several alternative therapies to promote general wellness and even treat several medical conditions. He offers consultations for nutritional medicine, and also offers microbiome testing (gut health), micronutrient testing, genetic biomarker testing, advanced cardiovascular testing, metabolic testing, glucose monitoring, and hormonal testing to help personalize treatment for every patient. 

4.Addiction Medicine 

Dr. Katra treats patients with opioid use disorder, cocaine use disorder, methamphetamine use disorder, alcohol use disorder, benzodiazepine use disorder, nicotine use disorder, caffeine use disorder, kratom addiction, gambling disorder, eating disorders, sex addiction, as well as other addictive disorders. 

Suboxone Clinic: Dr. Katra offers a structured program to provide suboxone treatment to those battling opioid use disorder. Please check to see that our office takes your insurance before scheduling an appointment. 

Smoking/Nicotine Cessation: Dr. Katra offers a smoking cessation program over several weeks that can include medication treatment, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and principles of hypnosis. 

5.Testosterone Replacement and Men's Sexual Health 

Dr. Katra offers consultation for testosterone replacement therapy and men's sexual health with modalities ranging from medications and supplements to integrative medicine and alternative therapies.
